we depart up the eastern shore
of Windermere, enjoying the views as we travel closer to the
market town of Ambleside. Passing the site of the Roman Fort
of Galava at Waterhead, we journey on the narrow winding road
to the home of Peter Rabbit. Those who join the tour at Ambleside

opposite the library (see map). Experience
the typical Lakeland countryside with forests, hills and green
fields dotted with sheep and cows. On to Hill Top Farm, bought
by Beatrix Potter 100 years ago and where she wrote many famous
stories including The Tales of Peter Rabbit. The farmhouse,
used as the basis for many later stories, has been preserved
in its original state. Every day we may enter the garden and
shop, and on Saturday to Wednesday entrance to the farmhouse
in included, but on Thursday and Friday, as the house is closed,
we enter the Beatrix Potter Gallery to see many original drawings
and paintings of her characters. After some time at Hill Top
Farm we travel past Esthwaite Water to Hawkshead where you
can wander through this pretty mediaeval village with its
narrow cobbled alleys tiny squares and old church. Our return
journey takes us to Waterhead to join your 30 minute voyage
to Bowness allowing you to photograph the magnificent views
of mountain scenery, secluded bays, wooded islands and gentle
rolling hills |

Arrive
back in Bowness. Those who joined the tour in Ambleside may
be taken to Bowness by minibus to return on the boat to Ambleside.
If required after shopping, your driver will collect you at
the Royalty Cinema in Bowness to take
you back to Oxenholme Station to catch your onward train connection |
